What are the seven chakras?

In yoga tradition, the chakras are seven centres along the body, each associated with a theme:

• Root (Muladhara): the base of the spine, associated with grounding.
• Sacral (Svadhisthana): the lower abdomen, associated with creativity.
• Solar Plexus (Manipura): the upper abdomen, associated with confidence.
• Heart (Anahata): the centre of the chest, associated with compassion.
• Throat (Vishuddha): the throat, associated with communication.
• Third Eye (Ajna): the forehead, associated with intuition.
• Crown (Sahasrara): the top of the head, associated with connection.

How do you use chakra soaps in a bath ritual?

1. Start with warm water and take a few slow breaths before you begin.
2. Use the Root bar on your legs and lower body.
3. Move up with the Sacral and Solar Plexus bars around the hips and abdomen.
4. Use the Heart and Throat bars on the chest, neck and shoulders.
5. Finish with the Third Eye and Crown bars, thinking about the theme of each one as you go.
6. Rinse, then follow with a body cream or lotion if your skin likes extra moisture.

You do not need to use all seven bars every day. Many people choose one bar for the day ahead, or use the full set as a weekend ritual.
