What Are the Benefits of Turmeric Soap?
If you, like most of the world, suffer from any issues with your skin, such as dullness, dryness, or breakouts, turmeric could be a gamechanger, but it’s understandable if you don’t want to spend time creating your own homemade turmeric remedies.
Luckily, you can easily feel the benefits of turmeric for your skin by using turmeric soap.
What is turmeric soap made from?
Our turmeric soap is made from natural ingredients which each offer massive health benefits. They are all found locally in Kerala, India. These include:
- Turmeric extract
- Turmeric oil
- Coconut oil
- Orange oil
- Geranium oil
- Patchouli oil
- Clove bud oil
- Vetivert oil
Combined, these ingredients create a luxurious, soothing soap that can treat a wide variety of problems that you may be experiencing with your skin.
The benefits of turmeric soap in Ayurveda
A major benefit of using turmeric soap is its promotion of collagen production. This speeds up the renewal of skin cells and helps to maintain the fullness of your skin, preventing wrinkling and sagging.
Turmeric’s antioxidant properties can also tackle signs of sun damage by preventing environmental stressors, like UV rays, from reducing your skin’s elasticity.
The geranium, coconut, orange, patchouli, vetivert, and clove bud oils can also all reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and keep your skin looking firm and toned.
Brightens the complexion
When applied to the skin, turmeric stimulates blood flow. This helps to purify the skin, improving the appearance of dullness or tiredness and creating a natural, glowing complexion.
Helps with a variety of common skin conditions, e.g. psoriasis and eczema
Both psoriasis and eczema are autoimmune diseases which can cause the skin to crack and bleed. Turmeric contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which are believed to help ease these symptoms. In addition, the coconut, orange, and patchouli oils in our soap can help reduce dryness and promote moisture retention in your skin.
However, these affects are believed and will vary person to person, so please do check with your doctor if you have serious concerns.
In Ayurveda, Turmeric is believed to have antiseptic, antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties which decrease inflammation and oxidation, helping to heal wounds more quickly and to reduce the risk of infection in the process. It also helps to soothe pain, redness, and swelling.
Coconut, clove bud, and vetivert oil also all have wound healing properties. Our turmeric soap is therefore excellent in treating sunburn, blisters, and cuts.
Helps to treat acne
Because of its anti-inflammatory nature, turmeric is great for calming the skin during an acne breakout. Its antiseptic and antibacterial properties also help to prevent pores from being clogged with excess oil and to combat the growth of acne-causing bacteria. Geranium oil also helps to balance oily skin and reduce excess skin oil.
Fades dark spots and acne scarring
Turmeric has been used in India for centuries to help with pigmentation issues. This is because it reduces melanin production and helps to even out the skin tone. This makes it an excellent answer to issues such as dark spots, acne scarring, and dark under-eye circles.
Reduces unwanted hair growth
A 2017 study found that turmeric oil slowed hair growth on the underarms of 60 women over the course of 10 weeks. If you struggle with unwanted facial or body hair growth, turmeric soap could be a great natural solution.
How to use turmeric soap
So you’ve read about the benefits of turmeric soap and now you want to start using it. Don’t be too hasty — be sure to do a patch test first to check that you aren’t allergic. You can do this by applying some to your inner arm or wrist and covering it up with a bandage for 24 hours. If you experience any signs of irritation like burning or itching, don’t continue to use turmeric soap. Take a look at our other handmade, natural soaps instead.
If your patch test went well, you’re ready to start using your turmeric soap! You can use it on your face and/or body, but it’s recommended to use it only once a day because of the risk of staining your skin. After a few weeks, you’ll be noticing great results.
If applying turmeric on your skin doesn’t sound like your thing, turmeric in food and drink is also hugely positive for your health. Try regularly incorporating our Turmeric Spice Drops into your diet to feel the most benefits.
