Fairtrade Fortnight 2016

With less than a week until the start of Fairtrade Fortnight 2016 (29 February -13 March this year), the Spice Drops® team is gearing up for what we hope will be a fantastic fortnight of news, events and food.

This year, the focus is on the Big Fairtrade Breakfast in the hope that,as you sit down for breakfast, you will be standing up for those farmers who’ve produced it for you – be that coffee, bananas, cocoa, oranges… or, indeed, the Spice Drops® you’ve popped into your coffee, porridge or stewed fruit.

Fairtrade statistics say that, despite our dependence on farmers and workers for the foods, drinks and products that we love, about 795 million people globally are undernourished. Andthat’s what the organisation is trying to change.

Our work at Holy Lama Naturals® is also about trying to bring about change – especially for the women in our factory in India.  You can find out more about how we work here.

So, how can you make your breakfast (and other meals) count during Fairtrade Fortnight and beyond?  The first step is to look for products bearing the Fairtrade logo; the next one(in our opinion) is to Spice Drops® them up!

Hot Fairtrade Drinks

We’re assuming that by now you’ve got your Fairtrade tea/coffee/hot chocolate/beverage of choice; but did you know that adding just one drop of our Peppermint, Tea Masala, Ginger, Saffron, Rose, Mint, Cardamom or Ginger Spice Drops® can add real depth of flavour – and often sweetness without the need to add sugar.

A drop of our Red Chilli Spice Drops® in hot chocolate can also add a very grown-up kick!

Cold Fairtrade Drinks

With so much Fairtrade fruit available, there are far too many ideas and recipes for us to share in one short blog post!  Smoothies, juices, cocktails and mocktails are all easy to enhance with a drop of Ginger, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Lemongrass or Mint Spice Drops® (what have we missed? Let us know!)

For a zingy breakfast juice, whizz up four large carrots and four apples with two drops of Ginger Spice Drops® and a single drop of Cinnamon Spice Drops®.

Fairtrade Breakfasts

We have lots of recipes here on our website for great breakfast dishes, including these porridge baskets, eggless crepes, spiced fruit and really easy cinnamon rolls.

You might like to try eggy bread with a drop of Cinnamon Spice Drops® (great kid friendly food), adding a drop of Red Chilli Spice Drops® to scrambled eggs or hotting up your baked beans with a drop of Garam masala Spice Drops®!

Whatever you choose, adding Spice Drops® to your cooking supports our Fairtrade practises, not just during Fairtrade Fortnight 2016, but all year round.
